We can now break these down to look at the year on year trends!
All-time six stats
Year | Sixes |
2019 | 784 |
2018 | 872 |
2017 | 705 |
2016 | 638 |
2015 | 692 |
2014 | 714 |
2013 | 674 |
2012 | 727 |
2011 | 638 |
2010 | 582 |
2009 | 442 |
2008 | 619 |
Average | 674 |
With an average of 674 sixes, the trend is looking like 700 sixes will be broken each tournament. This has now happened in 5 IPLs including the last 3 with a peak at 872 sixes in 2018. For a betting perspective, we would be looking for a bet of over 700 sixes in the 2020 IPL.
All-time Century stats
Year | 100s |
2019 | 6 |
2018 | 5 |
2017 | 5 |
2016 | 7 |
2015 | 4 |
2014 | 3 |
2013 | 4 |
2012 | 6 |
2011 | 6 |
2010 | 4 |
2009 | 1 |
2008 | 6 |
Average | 4.75 |
This shows an average of 4.75 centuries per year. The trend is for higher numbers in the later years with 5 being the minimum since 2015. The highest ever score still stands as Chris Gayles colossus 175 not out. If you are looking for pre-tournament bet bookmakers, like Betway India, will be offering bets on how many centuries are scored in the tournament. We’d be looking for a line of over 4.5 for a good bet.
Highest Batsman Score in an IPL Innings
Year | Score |
2019 | 114 |
2018 | 128 |
2017 | 128 |
2016 | 126 |
2015 | 133 |
2014 | 122 |
2013 | 175 |
2012 | 128 |
2011 | 120 |
2010 | 127 |
2009 | 114 |
2008 | 158 |
Average | 131 |
This is a great one for the betting markets with the chance of some big odds if you can pick a match where there will be a big score. It’s also good for a pre-tournament bet on the highest score from any player. Excluding the one-off mega innings that saw Chirs Gayle hit 175 the usual top score is around the 120 mark. Gayles innings along with Brendan Callums 158 back in 2008 are the only 2 innings to go over the 150 mark.
Unlike others, there is no clear trend in the highest score and a marker of 120-135 would be in the expected range again this year.
IPL 2019 Stats
2019 was an epic IPL with Mumbai Indians winning again, the stats are interesting when we are considering betting for the upcoming IPL 2020. Here we will look at some more in-depth player stats to help us see the players to watch this year.
We will start with the batsman and then move on to the bowlers.
Top 10 run-scorers + (Average)
- D Warner – 692 (69.20)
- L Rahul 593 (52.91)
- Q De Kock 529 (35.27)
- S Dhawan 521 (34.73)
- A Russell 510 (56.67)
- C Gayle 490 (40.83)
- R Pant 488 (37.54)
- V Kohli 464 (33.14)
- S Iyer 463 (30.87)
- J Bairstow 445 (55.62)
What a performance from David Warner with the bat! Top of the overall runs scored and second in the highest batting averages to MS Dhoni who go an astonishing 83.20 with 416 runs in total.
Top 10 most boundaries (4s)
- S Dhawan – 64 (DC)
- D Warner – 57 (SH)
- R Sharma – 52 (MI)
- L Rahul – 49 (KP)
- J Bairstow – 48 (SH)
- P Patel – 48 (RCB)
- King Kohli – 46 (RCB)
- A Rahane – 45 (RR)
- S Raina – 45 (CSK)
- C Gayle – 45 (KP)
I was surprised to see Chris Gayle only in 10th but he did only play 13 games compared to some others in the top 10 who played 16 & 17. With a better run, Gayle would have been right up there. If you were looking for a pre-tournament bet on this market then I would look for a team who should go all the way in the tournament.
Top 10 sixes
- A Russell – 52
- C Gayle – 34
- H Pandya – 27
- R Pant – 27
- A D Villiers – 26
- L Rahul – 25
- Q De Kock – 25
- M Dhoni – 23
- C Lynn – 22
- K Pollard – 22
This reads like a who’s who of the big hitters and is the only batting top 10 that David Warner does feature in. In the 2020 IPL, we would expect to see similar names topping this list again.
Most Fifties
- D Warner – 8
- L Rahul – 6
- S Dhawan – 5
- A D Villiers – 5
- C Gayle – 4
- A Russell – 4
- Q De Kock – 4
- C Lynn – 4
- MS Dhoni – 3
- S Raina – 3
Again the man of 2019 David Warner tops the list for the most fifties in the IPL.
Centuries
- D Warner – 1
- L Rahul – 1
- J Bairstow – 1
- S Samson – 1
- V Kohli – 1
- A Rahane – 1
2019 saw 6 centuries hit which is the second-highest in IPL history and was the 4th time there have been 6. If you were betting on this market then over 5.5 centuries would be a good bet in our opinion.
Highest strike rate
- Andre Russell 204
- Hardik Pandya 191
- Sam Curran 172
- Sunil Narine 166
- Moeen Ali 165
Top 10 wicket-takers in 2019 IPL
- I Tahir – 26
- K Rabada – 25
- D Chahar – 22
- S Gopal – 20
- J Bumrah – 19
- K Ahmed – 19
- M Shami – 19
- Y Chahal – 18
- R Khan – 17
- H Singh – 16
Three players from the Chennai Super Kings make the top 10 list, the most from any team. They have a most excellent bowling attack and with these players maintained you would have to expect more to come from them this year too. From a bowling perspective, they are the team to watch.
Best bowling economy rates (Minimum 10 overs)
- R Khan 6.28 (60 overs)
- R Jadeja 6.35 (54 overs)
- R Chahar 6.55 (47 overs)
- J Bumrah 6.63 (61.4 overs)
- M Nabi 6.65 (29.1 overs)
We’ve missed out on the players with lower averages who only bowled a couple of overs as it is not a fair representation of the bowlers to include them.

That’s it for 2020, our match tips will be back again next season for Indian Premier league 2021
Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals

Our match predictions are formulated using advanced data analysis to create winning percentages for each team.
Our cricket experts follow every action that unfolds in the Indian Premier League 2021 and analyze different aspects of the game – strike rates in different phases of the innings, death overs bowling, reliable middle-order, finishers, and a lot more – to find what lies at the core of a match-winning team, player, or performance.
IPL Betting Tips 2021
IPL 2021 will be long with a number of matches. In such a league, a bettor needs to chalk a long-term plan and not aim for big winnings by staking big money in a single match.
Here we analyse some of the most popular pre-match betting markets and discuss their profitability, and how to approach them during IPL.
Consider these betting markets popular across all top bookmakers in India –
- Top home team batsman
- Top away team batsman
- Top home team bowler
- Top away team bowler
These markets offer odds of 3.00 and above in most of the cases. If Royal Challengers Bangalore is playing, then, the betting odds for Virat Kohli in the team top batsman market may be below 3.00.
- There are many instances when the top scorer for a team is a middle-order or lower-order batsman.
- The betting odds for players in the top team batsman market increase as their batting position goes down.
- For example, if opening batsman Rohit Sharma has odds of 3.00 to be team top batsman for Mumbai Indians, Kieron Pollard who bats lower down the order will likely have odds of 6.00 and above.
Betting on a middle order batsman (number 4 or 5) in the top team batsman market will give higher returns
Hence, this market is likely to turn profitable over time as the league progresses.
While predicting who will score a fifty in the next match may not be an easy task for any bettor, the To Score 50+ Runs betting market offers great odds.
Another betting market where predicting the outcome is relatively easy is the To Hit A Six betting market.
- Here you can choose the individual players who you think will hit a six in the match. The odds for these players will mostly depend on their form and ability.
- The big hitting batsmen in these markets will have odds of under 1.80. However, this also depends on the bowling strength of the opposition.
IPL teams pack powerful batting line-ups with big hitters like David Miller, Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and many more. Predicting which of these batsmen will hit a six and getting 60% and above returns on your stake seems a good opportunity.
First Ball Of The Match
Opening batsmen in IPL tend to adapt their approach depending on the match situation, the pitch conditions, and the bowler. While the chances of the first ball of the match being a dot are quite high, if the batsman scores a single you stand to win Rs.400 on your Rs.100 bet.
- In the First Ball Of The Match betting market, the odds for a Dot Ball are 1.61 while those for a Single are 4.00.
- A four (off the bat) offers betting odds of 7.50 in this market.
- The likeliness of winning a bet on Single or the Four betting option in every game is low, however, over time, there is a possibility of eventually making a profit if the stakes are placed correctly.
Who will win IPL 2021
The betting sites consider Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad as the frontrunner to be IPL 2021 winners. 10Cric has valued SRH and MI at 5.45 and 5.50 betting odds respectively. Whereas, Betway has Mumbai Indians as favorites at 5.00 while CSK and SRH share 5.50 betting odds in the LPI 2021 Winner market.
The two finalists of 2019, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will be missing some of the best players this season. Suresh Raina decided to leave for India and not be a part of the IPL 2020. The highest wicket-taker in the history of IPL, Lasith Malinga will not be joining the MI camp in UAE and Australian pacer James Pattinson will replace him.
Here is what other teams in the Indian Premier League 2021 season look like –
Royal Challengers Bangalore
RCB will be hoping to bounce back after a disappointing season in 2019. Royal Challengers have been runners-up thrice in IPL and will be eager to win their first ever title. They’ve retained 13 players for the 2020 season including Kohli, AB de Villiers, W Sundar, Y Chahal, Parthiv Patel and Moeen Ali among few. Aaron Finch, Chris Morris, Isuru Udana, Kane Richardson will be seen in the RCB squad this season.
Kings XI Punjab
Chirs Gayle, KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran, and Karun Nair are some of the big impact players in Kings XI Punjab with the bat. 5 of the 9 new signings this season are all-rounders. Glenn Maxwell, Chris Jordan, James Neesham and Deepak Hooda will be the ones to watch out for in the KXIP side.
Rajasthan Royals
All-rounder Yashasvi Jaiswal from Mumbai was one of the big buys this season for Rajasthan Royals for Rs.2.50 crore. While Royals have retained their star players – Buttler, Stokes, Smith, Archer, some of their new signings include Robin Uthappa, David Miller, Tom Curran, Oshane Thomas and Andrew Tye.
Ipl Betting 2020
Kolkata Knight Riders
Knight Riders planned for a think tank shuffle for the 2019 season and as a result, head-coach Jaques Kallis and assistant Coach Simon Katich have left the KKR camp. While the Knight Riders had a strong overall side last year, their form dipped midway through the season losing 6 matches on the trot. English T20 specialist Eoin Morgan and Tom Banton will join KKR for IPL 2020 along with Chris Green, Pat Cummins, and Pravin Tambe.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
One of the most consistent sides in the IPL, SRH have retained 18 players including 6 overseas players. Sunrisers pack a strong bowling attack in their squad with the likes of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan, Mohamamd Nabi, and Khaleel Ahmed. Jonny Bairstow, Kane Williamson, and David Warner will lead the team’s batting effort from the top.
Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals impressed everyone in 2019 and will back themselves to reach the play-offs once again in 2020. The Capitals have signed Jason Roy, Alex Carey, Shimron Hetmyer, Marcus Stoinis, and Chirs Woakes for IPL 2020. DC has got a lot in store for all the fans as they retain their bowling strengths and add more to the batting firepower this season. In addition, 2019 KXIP skipper Ravichandran Ashwin will be joining Delhi Capital for the 2020 season and will be crucial for the side.
Who wins the IPL 2020 depends a lot on the quality of players these teams have got. Some players have the ability to play big innings or pick wickets in the death overs, but in a league where every team has got 14 matches, consistency, bench strength and variety are the key factors in a team’s chances of winning the title.
